Sports Day

In late spring, every elementary school has undoukai (sports day) in their own large field. And almost all the schools had it on the same day, i.e. 27 May. Unfortunately, on 27 May, it rained so it had to be postponed to the next day, which again it rained!!! So postponed again to 30 May and finally, it was good weather.

Usually, sports day is a family affair with most families treating it as a picnic on the weekend; and even some parents come to the school very early to book their good spot for shade as well as for taking photos of their children. 30 May was a Tuesday and I thought not many fathers would come. Boy, was I wrong!

The children are divided into different coloured teams with different coloured caps. But the challenge is between 2 teams only - red team and white team. White team wears white caps while red teams wear coloured caps like light green, dark green, blue, yellow and red. Every Grade has different race or game (like telematch) to earn points for their team. In the final tally, white team won! Erin's team won!!

Parents who got the best spot with their elaborate foldable tables with benches and zoom cameras.

Other parents with equally good spots with mats on the ground and with portable chairs.

Erin (somewhere in the middle) in a dance routine performed by all Grade 2 pupils.

Close-up of Erin dancing.

Erin winning first place in the 50 meters obstacle race. Potential Olympics champion???

A traditional war game with the red team and white team members trying to pull each others' caps away to score points.

Having lunch in the school hall. I am not so kiasu to wake up early and book a good spot in the school field.
